Under 21B Football County semi Final 01/04/2013

Full Time: Upperchurch Drombane 1-7  Knockavilla Kickhams  1-7

Upperchurch 1-10 Knockavilla 1-9 (AET)

Gavin Ryan, Nathan Delaney , Tommy Stevens, Ronan Gleeson, Ger Grant, John Ryan (Jerry), Toby Clancy, Seamus Armstrong(Captain), Ailbie O Donoghue, PJ Bourke, Paul Shanahan, Robert Murphy, James Murray, Joe Lowry, Ciaran Shortt. Sub: Cathal Purcell

J Murray(0-04), R Murphy (1-0), S Armstrong (0-02), P Shanahan (0-02), A Donoghue (0-02).

There was very little to choose between these two teams in a bitterly cold Clonoulty on bank holiday Monday last. The ability of Upperchurch to make the better of their opportunities in extra time proved decisive as they edged out Kickhams by a point. David Butler was prominent for Knockavilla throughout the game as he provided the final pass for their first goal and contributed points from play and frees. Attacking wing back  Ger Grant found himself high up the field in the 14th minute to provide wing forward Robert Murphy with the perfect pass and the wing forward made no mistake as he finished to the roof of the net. Midfielders Seamus Armstrong and Ailbie O Donoghue kicked two points each from play as they continue to underline their ability to score from long range. Paul Shanahan kicked two fine scores from frees and James Murray was unerring from play and placed balls. Dean Thompson chipped in with a couple of nice scores for Kickhams and they will rue a couple of missed chances in the first period of extra time. Paul Shanahan was a constant thorn in the side of the Knockavilla defence for an Upperchurch team whose ability to grind out victories has become an enduring quality.

Junior Hurling: The junior hurlers are in action next weekend against Gortnahoe in Gortnahoe in the first round of the League.

Bás: The club would like to extend its sympathy to the Costello family of the Milestone on their recent bereavement.
