Weekly Club Notes – May 27th 2016

SENIOR HURLING
Our senior hurlers face Drom & Inch in the final group game in the county championship tonight(Friday 27th) in Templemore at 7:30pm. A win or draw will see us qualify for the county quarter final while a defeat will leave us needing to win the mid championship to qualify for the latter stages of the county championship. Last Friday night we defeated Nenagh Éire Óg in the county challenge cup quarter final(Johnny Ryan section) on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-13. This win sees us advance to the semi final in the top tier of the competition. Holycross-Ballycahill, Burgess and Toomevara are the other semi-finalists. The quarter final of the mid championship against Loughmore-Castleiney has been fixed for the Saturday of the June bank holiday weekend in The Ragg.

JUNIOR HURLING
The group stages of the mid junior hurling league are now complete and we have qualified for the final against Gortnahoe-Glengoole. Date and venue haven’t been decided yet.

UPPERCHURCH DROMBANE GAA GOLF CLASSIC
The annual golf classic will be held on Thursday 14th & Friday 15th July in Dundrum Golf Club, Tipperary. A team of 4 costs €200 and this also includes a BBQ and 3 course meal. Anyone interested in playing please contact Richard Ryan on 0862676793

2016 CLUB MEMBERSHIP
Membership for 2016 will close at the end of May and all are urged to pay as soon as possible. Membership can be paid to committee members or online at http://www.upperchurchdrombanegaa.ie/members
Prices are unchanged from 2015:
€10 for all players between the ages of 16 to 18.
€20 for all players between the ages of 18 to 21.
€50 for all players over 21 years of age.
€30 for all non playing members irrespective of age.

TIPPERARY V CORK
Well done to Mike Ryan and James Barry on Tipperary’s win over Cork in the Munster championship last Sunday.

TIPPERARY GAA DRAW 2016/17
The Tipperary GAA Club Members Draw for the coming year has been launched and promoters are currently contacting existing members for renewal. Subscription rates are €10 per month or €100 for the full year. In total there are €500,000 in prizes. Anyone interesting in joining please contact any of the promoters or committee members. As with previous years Upperchurch Drombane GAA will receive 50-70% of your subscription as commission so it really benefits the club the more members who are able to subscribe to it.

NIGHT AT THE DOGS FUNDRAISER
An early notice that the club plan to hold a night at the dogs fundraiser hopefully in early September. Keep an eye for further updates in the coming weeks.

SENIOR HURLING
Tonight(Friday 20th) the senior hurlers are in action in the quarter finals of the Johnny Ryan Cup against Nenagh Éire Óg. The Johnny Ryan cup is the top of the 4 levels of cups on offer in the county challenge cup. The game throws in at 8pm in Drombane. Our remaining county championship group game against Drom & Inch has been moved back 2 days to Friday 27th May in Templemore at 7:30pm. A win or draw will see us qualify for the county quarter final while a defeat will leave us needing to win the mid championship to qualify for the latter stages of the county championship. JUNIOR HURLING
Our junior hurlers were out twice in the past week in the Mid Tipp junior hurling league. Last Saturday evening they had a 3-18 to 2-12 win over Moycarkey-Borris. With the teams level at half time we pushed on well in the second half to earn the victory. Yesterday evening in Kickham Park we played out a draw(1-12 to 3-6) against Thurles Gaels. With our 5 group games completed we sit on top of the table with 7 points and barring a 40+ point win for Thurles Gaels this weekend we have qualified for the final. The remaining fixtures in the group are fixed for this weekend.

SENIOR CITIZENS DAY TRIP TO DUBLIN

Senior Citizens Trip To Dublin

Our social and cultural officer Richard Ryan and his trusted sidekick and fellow committee member Pakie Purcell brought a group of OAPs from the club to Áras and Uachtaráin and Collins Barracks Museum in Dublin last Friday. It was an interesting and memorable trip for all who went along.

SENIOR HURLING
Last weekend the senior hurlers had a convincing 14 point victory over JK Brackens in the county championship on a scoreline of 3-18 to 0-13 with Pat Shortt scoring all 3 goals. The victory leaves us on 3 points in the group with only 1 fixture left against Drom & Inch. A win or draw in the game will see us top the group and qualify for the county quarter finals while a defeat will see us finish 3rd and needing to win the mid title to progress. The quarter final of the mid championship againats Loughmore-Castleiney has been fixed for the June bank holiday weekend. Our next fixture is in the county challenge cup quarter final against Nenagh Éire Óg on Friday 20th in Drombane.

JUNIOR HURLING
Our junior hurlers are in action this Saturday at 7:30pm in Drombane against Moycarkey-Borris in the mid Tipp junior league. Last weekend they had an easy 3-17 to 1-9 victory over Boherlahan Dualla. The final group game vs Thurles Gaels is due to go ahead next Thursday in Drombane at 7:30. Currently we sit on top of the group with 4 points from 3 games and a much better score difference than the other teams.

Weekly Club Notes – May 6th 2016

SENIOR HURLING
The senior hurlers have the 2nd game of their county championship against JK Brackens this Saturday in The Ragg at 7pm. With all 4 teams in the group having drawn the last day out the group is very tight and every point is vital. Best of luck to the lads and please come along and support if possible.

SENIOR FOOTBALL
Our senior footballers were defeated last Friday by Arravale Rovers 1-9 to 1-6 in the county championship. Playing against a strong breeze we were 7 points down at half time and despite outscoring Arravale by 1-4 to 0-3 in the second half it wasn’t enoug for the victory.
In the other group game Kilsheelan beat Cahir 1-11 to 1-7. The final group game will be against Kilsheelan-Kilcash at a date to be set.

JUNIOR HURLING
Our junior hurlers played out a high scoring affair against Gortnahoe-Glengoole last Monday in the junior league. Gortnahoe eventually come out as victors by 1 point(2-16 to 0-21). The next group game is on Sunday vs Boherlahan Dualla at 11:30am in Boherlahan.

MINOR FOOTBALL
Well done to our minor footballers who defeated Drom & Inch yesterday in the mid semi final on a scoreline of 4-8 to 2-10. They now go on to play the combo of Moyne and Thurles Gaels in the final.

JUVENILE GAA
Best of luck to our under 12 footballers who are in the mid final tomorrow(Saturday) at 2:45pm in Templemore against Boherlahan Dualla. Note the change of time.
Our under 14 footballers suffered a narrow loss to Boherlahan last Saturday in the mid championship. Next Wednesday evening they face Holycross in Drombane.
Fixtures and results for the juvenile GAA club are now being added to the clubify app. In order to receive notifications existing subscribers may need to go to the Notifications page on the app and enable the newly added teams.

TICKETS FOR TIPPERARY V CORK
Tickets for Tipperary v Cork in the Munster SHC quarter final on Sun 22nd May in Semple Stadium can now be ordered through the club with the prices as follows: Covered Stand – €25, Uncovered Stand – €20, Terrace – €15, Juvenile €5. €5 concessions are available for OAP/students at the stile on the day. Anyone looking for tickets please contact Ann Ryan on 087-2557058 BEFORE 6pm this Sunday(8th).
