Weekly Club Notes – Sep 23rd 2016

SENIOR FOOTBALL
Last Sunday saw us take the field for the first time ever in a mid senior football final when we faced Loughmore. Upperchurch made a flying start and led at the break by 1-6 to 0-1 in wet conditions. However in the second half Loughmore staged a comeback and clawed their way back into the game aided by a goal from a penalty. Our lads battled to stem the flow but Loughmore ran out 3 point winners 1-11 to 1-8. While the result is disappointing the team and management should take great credit in their performance considering it was their first year at senior level and the opposition were one of the kingpins of Tipperary football.

MINOR FOOTBALL
Our minor footballers are in action in the county semi final this Sunday at 12pm in Clonoulty against Cashel King Cormacs. Please support if possible as we continue our strong showing in the big ball game in recent years.

JUNIOR HURLING
The mid semi final against Boherlahan Dualla has been set for Sat 1st October. At this moment no time or venue has been agreed.

RIO PARALYMPICS
Congratulations to Peter Ryan on a very commendable 12th place finish in the Mens B Tandem Road Race at last weekends Paralympics.

ALL IRELAND KILMACUD 7’S
Congratulations to our hurlers who reached the final of the Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland 7’s last weekend. They emerged from a tough group Oranmore-Maree of Galway, Feakly of Clare & Moyne-Templetouhy before defeating the defending champions Borris-Ileigh in the quarter finals. In the semi’s they accounted for Adare of Limerick to set up a final berth against the pre-tournament favourites Kilmacud. The hosts raced into a large early lead but Upperchurch staged a storming comeback which came up just short as Kilmacud won by 3 points. While it was disappointing not to get the trophy it was a fine performance by all our hurlers.
