Weekly Club Notes – Nov 25th 2016

JUNIOR HURLING
Our junior hurlers are in action this Sunday in the Munster semi final at 2pm where they take on Murroe Boher of Limerick in Pairc Ide Naofa, Raheenagh, Co. Limerick.
We don’t get to compete in Munster competition very often so please support if at all possible.
A special word of thanks to Paddy Shanahan of Ground Construction Limited for sponsoring our participation in the competition and to Metro Construction and Oliver Ryan Plant Hire for sponsoring training tops and jackets.

Directions to venue:
On entering Newcastle West, take 1st exit off round about after Tesco.
Over a small bridge, take 2nd Exit off round about signposted – Dromcollogher R522
Follow this road for 3.3km
Take 1st right at the X roads – signposted – Killeedy GAA Club, Raheenagh L1321
Follow the main road for 5.8km
Enter Village of Raheenagh, parking stewards will guide you from here.

2017 CLUB OUTING
Bookings are now being taken for our 2017 Club outing to Kippure Estate & Lodges in Co. Wicklow on 4th/5th Feb. The outing consists of 1 nights B&B with brunch on arrival on Sat morning, group activities that afternoon followed by a 3 course buffet and dancing that night. Cost €100 per person with €50 deposit required to secure your place. Names and deposits to Kaye Ryan, LJ Ryan and Mary Ryan Patsy at the Clubhouse this Sat evening 26th Nov from 7pm till 9pm.

CLUB AGM 2016
The Club will hold its Annual General meeting in the clubhouse on Dec 4th at 6pm. Anyone wishing to submit motions for consideration should forward same in writing to the club secretary by this Sunday Nov 27th

TEAM SELECTORS FOR 2017
The process of appointing selectors for all teams for the 2017 season has now begun (U18 and above) and anyone interested in being involved in such a capacity are asked to contact either Michael O’Dwyer, Padraig Hayes or Conor O’Dwyer by today Friday Nov 25th.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CHARITY RUN AND WALK
Now is the time for the parishes athletes to start training for our annual charity run and walk. This years run will take place on Sunday Jan 8th. More details will follow in due course.

JUNIOR HURLING
Our junior hurlers overcame Portroe last Sunday in Kilcommon to claim the county title. They put in a fantastic performance taking the lead with a goal in the 7th minute and never relinquishing it. The winning margin in the end was 4 points 1-14 to 1-10. After the match team captain Lenny Purcell received the trophy from county board chairman Michael Bourke. The team now enter the Munster championship on Sunday 27th Nov where they take on the winners of this weekends quarter final between Murroe Boher of Limerick and Wolfe Tones of Clare. This is the 5th county championship the club have won in the last 5 years at various levels.

JUNIOR HURLING
All roads lead to Kilcommon this Sunday for the county junior hurling final vs Portroe. Throw in is at 2pm. If possible you are encouraged to come out and support the team as they attempt to win this title for the first time.

UNDER 21 HURLING
Commiserations to our Under 21 hurlers who were defeated by Moycarkey-Borris last Sunday.

2016 HURLING ALL STARS
Congratulations to James Barry on being named at full back on the 2016 All Star hurling team. In doing so he becomes the first Upperchurch Drombane player to win an All Star. In total Tipperary won 7 All Stars, Kilkenny 4 and Galway and Waterford 2 each.

JUNIOR HURLING
Congratulations to the junior hurlers who had a resounding win over Cashel King Cormacs in the county semi final last Saturday. A goal from Jack Ryan early in the second half putting them into a commanding 10 point lead and despite 2 late Cashel goals they ran out 5 point winners on a scoreline of 1-18 to 3-7. In the final they will face Portroe who overcame Carrick Swans in the other semi final with the likely date being the weekend of 12th/13th.

UNDER 21 HURLING
Best of luck to our under 21 hurlers who face Moycarkey-Borris in the mid championship this Sunday 6th Nov at 12pm in Holycross
