CLUB AGM

Last Sunday saw the club hold it’s AGM. On the night the officer’s for 2018 were selected with the main change at the top table being Joseph Lowry taking over the role of Secretary from the outgoing Catheriona Kennedy. Thanks to Catheriona for her hard work in the role and also to Kaye Ryan who stepped down as treasurer after 5 years in the role. It’s hoped to fill the role of treasurer in the coming weeks.

LIAM LAWTON IN CONCERT IN UPPERCHURCH CHURCH
This weekend sees Upperchurch Church host it’s first ever concert with the popular Liam Lawton performing. This event is a fundraiser for 4 local voluntary organisations. Doors open at 7pm with concert starting at 8pm. Tickets costing €20 can be purchased from local retail outlets or by contacting 0876863762 or 0862538201. The GAA club is organising stewarding for the event so anyone who is free to help out should meet in the village at 6pm on Saturday with a hi-viz jacket and torch.

UPPERCHURCH DROMBANE GAA 2017 ANNUAL NEWSLETTER
A 20 page annual newsletter charting the club’s activities over the past 12 months is now available to download or view online. This covers the progress of all our teams, social events along with some memories from times past. Free hard copies of the newsletter are also available in the local shops or creamery.

Mass for deceased members will be held in Drombane church on Saturday December 23rd at 7pm. Note this date has changed from previously.

XMAS CHARITY FUNDRAISER
For this years Xmas charity fundraiser we’re going to take a break from Moher Hill and do a 5k run and walk starting and finishing in Drombane Village. It will take place on Sunday Dec 31st with the proceeds this year going to the newly formed Upperchurch Drombane Active Retirement Group. Walk starts at 12:30pm and race at 12:45pm. Regristration & start at Drombane Hall. Entry is €10 for adults and children are free. Refreshments served afterwards. Please support this good cause and burn off some of the Christmas excess at the same time.

The weekly card game has resumed in the GAA clubhouse in Drombane on Mondays at 8:30pm. All are welcome

OLD GAA MATCHES IN CLUBHOUSE

The game chosen for this weeks screening in the clubhouse is the classic Munster final replay between Tipp and Cork from 1991. Our own club-man and current Tipp manager Michael Ryan had made his championship debut in the drawn game to start his 9 year career in the blue and gold. Following this will be a series of highlights of All Ireland hurling finals from the 60’s. A golden age for Tipperary hurling. The screening will start at 8:30pm in the clubhouse in Drombane tonight (Friday) and all are welcome

CLUB AGM
The 2017 GAA club AGM takes place this Sunday at 6pm in the Clubhouse in Drombane. Attendance at the AGM is vital for the smooth and successfuly running of the club in the coming year. New members are most welcome to attend.

2018 CHAMPIONSHIP STRUCTURES
The Tipp SHC format for 2018 was voted in at last night’s county board meeting to keep the current format for next year i.e. maintain the link between divisional & county championship. The mid championship & 1st round of county group stage will be played in April and the remaining rounds will resume in September.

Please support this good cause and burn off some of the Christmas excess at the same time.

OLD GAA MATCHES IN CLUBHOUSE

Our screening of old matches will continue next Friday night Dec 1st. So far we have seen Tipp bridge a 16 year gap to win the 1987 Munster title and Offaly prevent Kerry from completing the 5 in a row in the 1982 AI football final. Next weeks game has yet to be decided but will be announced over the coming few days. Match will start at 8:45pm sharp. Refreshments will also be served. All are invited to attend what should be some very enjoyable evenings.

JUVENILE GAA CLUB MEDAL PRESENTATION NIGHT
Upperchurch Drombane Juvenile GAA club will hold a medal presentation night tonight Friday (November 24th) in Upperchurch Hall at 8:30 pm. This year has been a very successful year for the club with a number of titles won.

ANNUAL HALL SALE OF WORK
The Annual Hall Sale Of Work takes place this Sunday 26th Nov from 2pm including an appearance by Santa and also a cake sale. Donations of any items including buns for the cake sale can be left into the hall on the evening of Sat 25th or morning of Sun 26th.

Tonight(Friday) sees the of our series of evenings replaying old classic GAA matches. Tonight we will show the 1987 Munster final replay between Tipperary and Cork. Tipperary were in search of their first Munster title in 16 years. Match will start at 8:45pm sharp. Refreshments will also be served. All are invited to attend what should be some very enjoyable evenings.

Over a number of weeks in the run up to Christmas the club will be hosting evenings replaying old classic GAA matches. The first night will take place on Friday Nov 17th at 8:45pm where the 1987 Munster final replay between Tipperary and Cork will be shown. Tipperary were in search of their first Munster title in 16 years. Refreshments will also be served. All are invited to attend what should be some very enjoyable evenings.

UPPERCHURCH WALKING WEEKEND 2017

LAOCHRA GAEL AWARD
Well done to Phil Lowry, Moyaliffe, who was this week named among the receipients of the 15th Laochra Gael awards. These awards honour people who have given significant service to their clubs through the years. Phil follows in the footsteps of a number of others from the parish who have received this award in previous years. The awards will be presented later this month.

MINDING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH TALK
In conjunction with the Upperchurch Drombane Active Retirement Group a talk is being held in Drombane Community Centre on Monday 13th at 3pm on the topic of “Minding Your Mental Health”. John McElhinney from Mental Health Ireland will be the speaker on the day and all interested are welcome to attend.

UNDER 21 HURLING

Last weekend saw our under 21 hurlers take on JK Brackens Óg in the mi semi final. The first 20 mins saw the teams neck and neck before Brackens pulled a few points clear approaching half time. A goad for Brackens early in the 2nd half saw them extend their lead which they were able to maintain for the rest of the game. Final score was JK Brackens 2-20 Upperchurch Drombane 1-14

Clodiagh Rangers football club will host a table quiz tonight(Fri) in Kinnanes, Upperchurch. Starting at 9:30pm a table of 4 will cost €20. All are welcome.

Last weekend Mid U21 semi final v JK Brackens Óg was postponed due to adverse weather. The game has been rescheduled for this Saturday at 11:45am in Holycross.

Our u21 hurlers are back in action in the mid semi final this Saturday against JK Brackens. Throw in is at 3:30pm in Littleton.

UPPERCHURCH DROMBANES FASTEST FAMILY FUNDRAISER

Huge thanks to all who contributed in any way to our “Night at the Dogs and Fittest Family Run” last Saturday in Thurles Greyhound Stadium. First off thanks to all our runners and families who were brave enough to run a lap each of the greyhound track in a relay race and so kindly gave up their time to take part. Secondly thanks so much to all who purchased tickets for the event and contributed to the auction on the night, its your generous contribution that makes an event like last Saturday night such a success. Thirdly thanks to Thurles greyhound track staff for their facilities and also to our hard working committee and their families for their efforts to ensure the night was a great success. Finally well done to all the competitors The Greenes, The Grants, The Gleesons, The Ryans of the Line, The Harrington-Pamplins, The Ryan Farmers, The O Dwyer-Quinlans, The Ryan Giants, The Shanahans and The Shortt-Bourkes.. you were all winners for taking part and played a big part in making the event a big success!! Fastest lady on Saturday night was Kelley Harrington and the fastest family were The Ryan Giants team of Larry, Norita and Matt. It’s two in a row for Matt who was the fastest man in last years event! Once again many thanks to all concerned for making the night a huge success. SPECIAL CLUB MEETING CANCELLED
The special club meeting to discuss the proposed Tipperary GAA fixtures plan scheduled for this evening(Sunday) has been postponed.

JOHN RYAN ABSEILING CROKE PARK FOR CHARITY
Our senior hurling manager John Ryan is abseiling Croke Park in October in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. UPPERCHURCH DROMBANES FASTEST FAMILY FUNDRAISER

This Saturday sees 11 families battle it out in Thurles Dog Track for the title of Upperchurch Drombane’s Fastest Family. Teams of 3 will compete in a relay race. This is in addition to the usual programme of greyhound races and also live music at the end of the night. Everyone who buys a ticket will also be entered into the buster draw with large prizes. Tickets at €15 can be purchased from any of the competitors for what should be a very enjoyable evening. Racing will commence at 8pm.

2018 TIPPERARY MANAGEMENT TEAMS
Congratulations to Michael Ryan who has been re-appointed as Tipperary senior hurling manager for a 3 year term. He will once again team up with Declan Fanning, John Madden & Conor Stakelum. Also best wishes to Viv Downey who has been named as a selector for the Tipperary minor football team for next year. Hopefully both can guide Tipperary to further success over the next few years.
