SENIOR HURLING

The senior hurlers put on a ferocious display of commitment and skill when defeating Kiladangan in the county championship last Sunday evening in Dolla. A lively start saw us move into a 3 point lead however a Kiladangan goal from Darragh Egan levelled it up midway through the half. Upperchurch then reeled off 5 of the next 6 points to go into the break with a 3 point cushion. The Upperchurch forwards were causing plenty of trouble and drawing frees which Paul Ryan dispatched. Kiladangan, last years county finalists, attempted to mount a comeback in the second half but our players were determined to keep fighting to the death and not allow any space to the Kiladangan players. Upperchurch eventually prevailed on a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-9. In the other group game Borris-Ileigh and Loughmore drew which leaves Loughmore top of the table on 3 points, Upperchurch & Kiladangan on 2 and Borris-Ileigh on 1. No definite date is set for the final round of fixtures. The semi final of the Cahill Cup against Drom & Inch will be played next Tuesday June 6th at 7:30pm in Drombane.

SENIOR FOOTBALL

The senior footballers put in a great fight in the first round of the senior championship against Ballyporeen last Saturday but ultimately came up just short. They came out of the blocks very quickily and raced into a 4 point lead but we pegged back and Ballyporeen led by 2 at half time. Ballyporeen strated the second half strongly and got a goal to extend their lead to 7 points but it was all Upperchurch from there as they reeled off 6 unanswered points. Ultimately it was not to be enough as they lost by 1 and will rue a number of wides that could have gained the victory. The next round is against Cahir on Wed May 24th at 7:30pm in Dundrum.
