Our senior footballers put in a brave fightback to fall just short in the county semi final v JK Brackens last Sunday. Brackens started brightest going 3 points up at the quarter hour mark. An Aaron Ryan goal though had the sides level a few minutes later though. The Templemore side responded quickly with a goal of their own and 2 more points had them 5 up while Upperchurch were also reduced to 14 men after AJ Shanahan received a 2nd yellow card. The lads dug in deep though and points from the returning Jack Butler, Paul Shanahan & Niall Grant left us 2 points in arrears at half time. The 2nd period saw the sides evenly matched but Brackens maintained the upper hand on the scoreboard and with 15 minutes left were 3 points ahead. Points from play from Dean Carew & Conor Fahey helped to reel in the gap somewhat and when Paul Shanahan scored from a mark 2 minutes into injury time there was just 1 point between the sides. However we were unable to get a good opportunity for another point and Brackens held out for a 1-14 to 1-13 victory. Despite being defeated it has been another strong year at senior level. Thanks to all players and management for their effort.
